​​Production Grants

The primary objective of production grants is to support the creation of original Public, Education, Government (PEG) video programs, public service announcements, series, and documentaries for PEG television. The scope includes pre-production, production, post-production, production equipment and support.

Allowable expenses:

  • Pre-production: Pre-production is the initial phase of the filmmaking or video production process, which involves the planning, preparation, and organization before the filming or shooting begins.
  • Production: Production is the filmmaking or video production phase where scenes are filmed or recorded. It is the execution stage of the project that follows the pre-production phase.
  • Post-production: Post-production is the final phase in the filmmaking or video production process which involves all the tasks and activities after shooting wraps up, transforming the raw footage into a polished and cohesive final product.
  • Production equipment purchase or rental: equipment allows production teams to access the latest technology and tailor their equipment choices to the unique requirements of each project without committing to long-term ownership.
  • Technical support: Technical support refers to the assistance and expertise provided by professionals specializing in various technical aspects of filmmaking.

Eligibility Criteria

Non-profit organizations, local government organizations, students, and private/public schools that operate within incorporated and unincorporated communities within the County of Sacramento are eligible to apply.

Allowable Expenses (not a comprehensive list)

  • Research and script development
  • Storyboarding and concept design
  • Location scouting and permits
  • Casting and talent fees
  • Equipment rental and purchase (cameras, lighting, audio, etc.)
  • Crew salaries and stipends (director, camera operators, sound technicians, etc.)
  • Production insurance
  • Travel and accommodations for crew and talent
  • Set design and construction
  • Costumes and props
  • Meals and craft services for the crew and cast
  • Video editing and color correction
  • Sound design and mixing
  • Music composition and licensing
  • Visual effects and animation
  • Editing software and hardware
  • Subtitling or captioning services
  • Distribution and duplication costs (if applicable)
  • Administrative costs related to the project
  • Marketing and promotional materials for the video
  • Festival submission fees

Impact and Reporting Requirements

Impact and reporting requirements are essential for evaluating the success of the funded project. Examples of impact include: stories, testimonials, viewership statistics, or feedback from the community that demonstrate the positive impact of the produced content.

  • Progress Reports: Regularly provide updates on the project's development, production milestones, and challenges faced
  • Final Report: Upon completion of the project, submit a comprehensive final report detailing how the grant funds were utilized, the outcomes achieved, and the project's impact on the community, education, or local government.
  • Distribution and Engagement: Describe how the produced content was distributed and how it engaged the intended audience, whether through broadcast, online platforms, events, or other means.​​​
